Self Care is often ridiculed these days, because what we need instead is change on a structural and political level – isn’t it? That’s true, but until that happens, a radically caring approach to ourselves can help us survive, remain capable of action and initiate change. Of course, it’s not quite as simple as just taking a certain number of bubble baths and living in the age of justice. But there is power in engaging with yourself, your needs, emotions and limits – detached from the capitalist wellness industry.
This workshop based on the book “Radical Self-Care Now: A Feminist Perspective” looks at the origins of self-care as a resistance practice, its meaning far from hashtags and optimisation, and its political potential. Author Svenja Gräfen invites participants to exchange and self-reflect. In conversations and through guided writing tasks, we approach questions like: How are you actually doing right now? What does self-care mean to you? How do you cope with stress? How can we establish a self-care practice without putting ourselves under more pressure? Where do we find the time? And: Where do we even start?
Come as you are – participants are invited to contribute, but are also welcome to just be there as spectators and relax. 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ Safer Space
