hands.on.matter

hands.on.matter is an explorative collective, consisting of material and product designer Tim van der Loo (NL) and techno-anthropologist Sandra Nicoline Nielsen (DK), working with materials in a circular economy.

hands.on.matter unfolds the potentials of novel as well as traditional production techniques as an starting point for questioning resource use, consumption/production, material understanding and culture. Through workshops, talks and collaborative projects, hands.on.matter seeks to push forward sustainable practices in the field of art and design.

Our work with circular material thinking has an emphasis on post-consumer and biobased materials. We see these materials as an opportunity to pave the way for local production and new circular infrastructures in our current culture of material politics. We apply material studies to surfaces and structures to create everyday objects and installations and facilitate events.
